Insects on the menu at UK theme park

Chessington World of Adventures is asking guests to taste and give feedback on a range of edible insect products to go on sale in a new Asian-themed area of the park.

The delicacies include chocolate-coated insect larvae, cheese and bacon flavoured crickets and chocolate ant wafer biscuits. They are on-site for a free of charge consumer test taking place on 19th February, coinciding with UK schools' half-term holidays. If the trial proves successful, the snacks may be available to buy at 'Wild Asia' area of the park, due to open on 27th March, as part of a pick 'n' mix range.

David Smith, General Manager of Chessington World Of Adventures, says, "I have tried the sample snacks, and I think if you can exercise mind over matter you will find that they are actually quite tasty. I think 'I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here' has uncovered a secret desire in many of us to try eating insects, so now is your chance!"

The insect products are said to be ethically sourced, and may even have health claims! "I hear that insects are a great source of protein," a visitor to the park commented. "You shouldn't have to eat many before you are full!"
